Dr. Sotirios Theofanis

Dr. Theofanis is an internationally acknowledged expert, manager and academic in the fields of freight transport, logistics and ports. He has a unique blend of extensive administrative, high level managerial, consulting and academic experience in the fields of port planning, management and operations, as well as in freight, intermodal and maritime transport.

He is Professor of Practice and Programme Lead, MSc in Shipping and Port Management, CITY College, University of York Europe Campus. He is also Academic Director, Port Senior Management Programme, Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI), Israel. He is non – resident Affiliated Faculty with the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), Rutgers University, NJ, USA.

Ex – Chairman of the BoD of Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (ThPA SA) (2018-2020); Ex – Chairman of the BoD of Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA) (2002 – 2004); Ex – CEO ThPA SA (1999 – 2002), he led the efforts for the corporatization and the Stock Listing of ThPA SA (2001) and PPA SA (2003).Visiting Professor and Director, Freight and Maritime Program (FMP), Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), Rutgers University, NJ, USA (2005 – 2012).Expert, Head of Planning Unit, and Deputy Director for Ports in the Ministry of Merchant Marine, Greece (1986 -1999).

He is Author and co-author of over one hundred twenty scientific journal articles, with a high degree of citations, and he serves on various scientific committees. He is Visiting Professor / Scholar in many Academic Institutions worldwide.

In April 2019, he has been selected as Port Professional of the month in Europe, by the European Seaports Organisation (ESPO).

He holds a Degree in Civil Engineering (MEng) from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece; a MSc in Environmental Engineering and Technology from University of Birmingham, UK; a Diploma in Port Senior Management from Galilee College, Israel; and PhD in Port and Maritime Logistics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
